How Long Does Shilajit Take to Work? What the 4-Week, 8-Week and 90-Day Studies Show
Written by Taj Sultan. We'd rather you have realistic expectations than buy twice and feel let down. General information, not medical advice.
Quick answer
Give shilajit at least 4 to 8 weeks of daily use before judging it. Human studies measured effects at 4 weeks (strength and fatigue, small study without placebo), 8 weeks (strength after a tiring workout) and 90 days (testosterone in men aged 45 to 55). Some people say they feel more energetic within the first week or two, but no study has shown a reliable effect that fast. If you feel nothing at all after 8 to 12 weeks of 300 to 500 mg a day of tested resin, it may simply not do much for you, and that's worth knowing. Our 60-day refund is built around that timeline.
The timeline, honestly
| When | What the evidence says | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| First few days | No study has measured effects this early. | Feeling a big change in 3 days is more likely coffee, sleep or expectation. Feeling nothing is normal. |
| 2 to 4 weeks | A 2026 pilot study of 25 men taking 500 mg a day reported better strength and endurance scores and lower fatigue scores after 28 days. It had no placebo group and was funded by the manufacturer. | Some people notice steadier energy around now. Treat it as encouraging, not proof. |
| 8 weeks | A placebo-controlled trial of 63 active men found the 500 mg a day group kept more of its strength after a fatiguing workout. | The best evidence so far is about holding up under physical fatigue, measured at 8 weeks. |
| 90 days | A placebo-controlled trial in healthy men aged 45 to 55 found higher total and free testosterone and DHEAS after 90 days of 250 mg twice a day. | Hormone changes, if they happen, are measured in months, not days. Only a blood test can confirm them. |
What makes results vary
- The product. The studies used purified shilajit with known fulvic acid content. Resin of unknown quality, or a product that isn't really shilajit, can't be expected to match them. Ours measured 75.17% fulvic acid (BECS Analytics, report 2512-905) and had no detectable heavy metals (PCSIR, report FBRC/SK/ANAL.REP./1006). See our lab reports.
- Your starting point. Someone sleeping five hours and living on chai and fast food will feel little from any supplement until those basics change. Our 30-day reset covers this.
- Consistency. Every study used daily doses. Taking it on some days and not others makes it impossible to judge.
- The amount. In the 2019 study, 250 mg a day did not produce the effect that 500 mg did. Below about 300 mg a day you may be under the studied range. Above 500 mg there's no evidence of extra benefit. See our dosage guide.
How to judge it fairly

- Write down where you are before you start: energy on a 1 to 10 scale, sleep hours, how a usual workout or walk feels.
- Take the same amount at the same time every day.
- Don't change five other things at once. If you also start the gym and quit sugar, you won't know what helped.
- Check again at 4 and 8 weeks against your notes.
- Be honest at 8 to 12 weeks. If nothing has changed, stop. Don't double the dose.
If you have real symptoms, such as constant tiredness, weakness, numbness or low libido, see a doctor rather than waiting for a supplement. These can come from anaemia, low B12, thyroid problems or diabetes. Our guide to asabi kamzori explains the common causes.
Frequently asked questions
How long does shilajit take to work?
Studies measured effects after 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 90 days. Plan on at least 4 to 8 weeks of daily use before deciding whether it helps you.
Can shilajit work in 3 days?
No study shows a reliable effect in 3 days. Some people feel a lift early, but that is hard to separate from expectation.
How long does shilajit take to increase testosterone?
The one placebo-controlled trial measured it after 90 days, in healthy men aged 45 to 55. It isn't a treatment for low testosterone, and only a blood test can tell you if your levels changed.
What if I feel nothing after a month?
That's common, and it doesn't mean the product is fake. Continue to 8 weeks at a steady 300 to 500 mg a day. If there is still no change by 12 weeks, it may not be for you.
Should I take more to get faster results?
No. Studies didn't go above 500 mg a day, and more resin means more of anything unwanted in it. A steady amount over weeks is what was tested.
