Written by Taj Sultan. We sell shilajit, so we'll be straight with you: no supplement cancels out a daily fast-food habit. This guide is general information, not medical advice. If you have a health condition or take medication, talk to your doctor before changing your diet or starting any supplement.

Quick answer

If you eat fast food every day, the biggest wins come from cutting sugary drinks, salt and deep-fried food, and adding water, fibre, protein, movement and sleep. Shilajit can be a small part of a healthier morning routine. It is a mineral-rich resin traditionally used for energy and stamina, and early human studies are promising. But it is not a detox, and it won't undo a burger. Start with the 30-day reset below, and if you add shilajit, choose one with a published heavy-metal lab report.

What a daily fast-food habit does

An occasional burger isn't the problem. The problem is the daily pattern, because fast food tends to be high in the three things the World Health Organization most wants people to cut:

  • Salt. WHO advises less than 5 g of salt a day, about one teaspoon. Burgers, fries, shawarma sauces and broast are salty, and a single large meal can use up much of a day's allowance. Too much salt is linked to high blood pressure.
  • Sugar. WHO advises keeping free sugars below 10% of daily energy. A large cola alone can take a big share of that.
  • Industrial trans fats and repeatedly heated oil. WHO says industrially produced trans fats should be avoided altogether.

What fast food usually lacks matters just as much: fibre, vegetables, fruit and enough water. That combination is why many daily fast-food eaters feel heavy, sleepy after meals and low on energy by evening.

The 30-day reset

You don't need to quit fast food forever. These changes are small enough to keep up in a normal Pakistani routine:

  1. Replace the cola. Water, plain lassi, lemon water without sugar, or green tea. This is the single easiest change.
  2. Grilled over fried. Tikka, seekh kebab or grilled chicken instead of broast and fries. Ask for sauce on the side.
  3. Two home meals a day. Daal, sabzi, chicken or eggs, roti, and a salad. Keep fast food to two or three times a week.
  4. Add fibre at every meal. Salad, kheera, fruit, daal, chana. Fibre keeps you full and steadies your energy.
  5. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water. More in summer.
  6. Walk 30 minutes a day. A walk after dinner counts.
  7. Sleep 7 to 8 hours. Late nights are when most fast food gets ordered.

Where shilajit fits

A spoon of dark shilajit resin being scooped from a jar
A daily serving is pea-sized: roughly 300 to 500 mg of resin.

Shilajit is a resin that seeps from high mountain rocks in the Himalaya and Hindu Kush. It contains fulvic and humic acids and trace minerals, and it has been used for centuries in traditional medicine for energy and stamina.

What the research says, honestly: there are only a handful of small human studies, looking at things like energy, fatigue after exercise and men's hormones. The results are promising, but not enough to call any benefit proven, and no study has looked at people on a fast-food diet. So treat shilajit as a support for a better routine, not as a fix for a bad one. More in what the human studies show.

How to take it: dissolve a pea-sized amount (about 300 to 500 mg) in a glass of warm water or milk, once a day, ideally in the morning. Start smaller for the first week. See our dosage guide.

Choose a tested one. If your diet is already heavy on processed food, the last thing you need is a supplement contaminated with lead or arsenic. Ask for a heavy-metal lab report with a report number. Taj Sultan's PCSIR report (FBRC/SK/ANAL.REP./1006) found arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury not detected. You can read it on our lab reports page.

Who should check with a doctor first: anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone taking medication (especially for blood pressure, blood sugar or the heart), and anyone with a kidney or liver condition. See who should avoid shilajit.

A sample day

Lunch Burger, fries and a cola Daal chawal or chicken salan with salad and water

Dinner Broast or pizza Chicken tikka or seekh kebab with roti and salad
Treat night (2 to 3 a week) Large meal with a cola Regular size, water instead of cola, a walk afterwards

Frequently asked questions

Can shilajit detox my body after eating junk food?

No. Your liver and kidneys clear waste from your body, and there is no good evidence that shilajit "detoxes" anything. Be wary of any product that promises it does.

Can I take shilajit if I eat fast food every day?

Most healthy adults can, but it works best alongside the changes above rather than instead of them. If you take medication or have a health condition, ask your doctor first.

How long before I feel better after cutting down on fast food?

It varies from person to person. Many people notice steadier energy within a few weeks of drinking water instead of cola, eating more fibre and sleeping better.

Which shilajit should I buy?

Pure resin with a published heavy-metal lab report and a report number you can check with the laboratory. Our ranking of ten brands sold in Pakistan, scored on exactly that, is here: Best Shilajit in Pakistan: Top 10 Brands Ranked.

Roman Urdu mein khulasa

Agar aap roz fast food khate hain, to koi supplement us ka nuqsan khatam nahi kar sakta. Sab se bara farq yeh cheezein dalti hain: cola ki jagah paani, fried ki jagah grilled, din mein do waqt ghar ka khana, salad aur daal, roz 30 minute walk, aur 7 se 8 ghante neend. Salajeet subah ki achi routine ka chhota sa hissa ban sakti hai: matar ke daane jitni neem garam paani mein. Lekin sirf lab-tested salajeet lein, jis ki heavy metals report ka number ho. Dawa lete hain ya koi bimari hai to pehle doctor se mashwara karein.
