Original Shilajit in Pakistan (2026): How to Check It's Real, and Where to Buy

Quick answer

Original shilajit is purified resin from high mountains; in Pakistan it comes mainly from Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. But "original" is not the same as "safe": raw shilajit can carry heavy metals from the rock it forms in. Home tests (water, flame, stretch) can show that a sample behaves like resin, but none of them can detect lead or arsenic. To know a jar is both real and safe, ask for a heavy-metal lab report with a report number, a named lab, a test date and the actual results, and confirm the number with the lab. Buy from a seller who gives you that, plus cash on delivery and a refund period long enough to try it.

What "original shilajit" means

Shilajit (salajeet) is a dark, sticky resin that seeps from rock in high mountain ranges during the warm months. Sellers in Pakistan source it mainly from Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan (Hunza, Nagar, Skardu). Raw shilajit contains rock, sand and plant matter, so it is dissolved, filtered and dried before it is sold. "Original" should mean three things: it really is shilajit, it has been purified, and nothing else has been added.

What buyers in Pakistan most often run into:

  • resin sold loose by the tola, with no label, batch number or test;
  • "shilajit" mixed with honey, sugar or other fillers, with no amount of shilajit stated;
  • a "lab tested" badge or an ISO or GMP logo with no lab name, report or results behind it;
  • claims that it cures diseases, which no genuine lab report can support.

What home tests can and can't tell you

These are folk tests. None of them is proof, and none says anything about safety.

Test What it is said to show What it can't show
Water test (a pea-sized piece in warm water) Purified resin dissolves slowly and almost fully, turning the water golden-brown Heavy metals, or how much of it is shilajit
Temperature test Resin goes hard in the cold and soft and stretchy when warm Small amounts of sugar or fillers
Flame test Resin bubbles and softens instead of catching fire easily Heavy metals or contamination
Smell and taste Real resin is bitter and earthy, not sweet Anything about safety

Lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury have no taste, colour or smell, and they don't change how resin dissolves or stretches. Only a lab can tell you whether they are there. In a JAMA study of Ayurvedic products bought online, about one in five contained detectable lead, mercury or arsenic.

The 4 checks that work, for any brand

  1. A heavy-metal report with a report number. Not just "lab tested". Lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury should all be listed.
  2. A named lab you can contact. A government lab such as PCSIR, or a lab accredited by PNAC (Pakistan National Accreditation Council) to ISO/IEC 17025. Call or email the lab with the report number and ask them to confirm it.
  3. A recent test date. A report from years ago says little about the jar on sale today.
  4. Actual results. "Not detected" or a measured figure in mg/kg for each metal. "Within limits", "heavy metal free" or a logo without numbers is not a result.

Two more that help: a fulvic acid figure from a named lab (it shows how concentrated the resin is), and a batch number on the jar that matches the report. Step by step: how to check a shilajit lab report.

Where to buy original shilajit in Pakistan

  • Brand websites: the easiest place to see the report before you pay. Prefer cash on delivery and a written refund period. Our Top 10 brands by lab report lists what each brand publishes.
  • Marketplaces such as Daraz: fine if the listing shows the brand's report and the seller is the brand itself.
  • Pansar and herbal shops: loose resin with no label or test is the riskiest way to buy. Ask for a sealed jar and a report.
  • Markets in Chitral, Gilgit and Hunza: genuine resin is sold there, but "from the mountains" still tells you nothing about purification or heavy metals.

Lab-tested resin costs about Rs 100 to Rs 130 per gram in Pakistan: see shilajit price per gram, brand by brand. In Lahore, Islamabad or Karachi: where to buy in your city.

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell if shilajit is original at home?

Dissolve a pea-sized piece in warm water: purified resin dissolves slowly and almost completely. That shows it behaves like resin, but no home test can detect heavy metals. For safety you need a lab report with a number you can confirm with the lab.

Can original shilajit contain heavy metals?

Yes. Shilajit forms in rock, and raw or poorly purified resin can carry lead, arsenic, cadmium or mercury. That is why a heavy-metal test matters more than where it comes from.

Is Chitral shilajit or Gilgit shilajit better?

Both come from high mountains, and both can be good or bad. Purification and the heavy-metal test decide quality more than the valley does, so ask for the test whichever region it comes from.

What is the price of original shilajit in Pakistan?

Lab-tested resin cost about Rs 2,400 to Rs 2,600 for 20 g (Rs 120 to Rs 130 per gram) from the brands we checked in October 2026, and less per gram in bigger packs. Very cheap loose resin with no test is the riskiest.

Does original shilajit dissolve in water?

Yes. Purified resin dissolves in warm water and leaves little or no residue. Grit or a lot of sediment suggests poor purification.

Where can I buy original shilajit online in Pakistan?

From any seller that shows a heavy-metal report number from a named lab and offers cash on delivery and a refund. Taj Sultan delivers free across Pakistan, with a printed PCSIR report in every jar.

Roman Urdu mein khulasa

Asli salajeet woh hai jo pahar ki resin ho, saaf ki gayi ho aur us mein kuch mila na ho. Magar asli hona aur mehfooz hona alag baatein hain: kachi salajeet mein lead ya arsenic ho sakta hai, aur pani, aag ya kheenchne wale tests yeh nahi bata sakte. Khareedne se pehle chaar cheezein poochein: report number, lab ka naam, tareekh aur asal results. Taj Sultan: PCSIR Lahore report FBRC/SK/ANAL.REP./1006, chaaron metals nahi mile, copy har jar ke saath. Mazeed: asli salajeet ki pehchan.
